Plant Chemistry and it's Influences on our Body
There are many chemicals amongst the plant kingdom. Many of these chemicals are needed for the systems within the body to work properly. The experience of incorporating a wide variety of plants into our diets is essential to understanding how plants can be used as preventatives.
The body uses different chemicals from our diets to properly signal itself. The endocannabinoid system is a major pathway for these signals. This system can effect the digestive system, nervous system, skeletal system, immune system and even pain signaling pathways. When a cannabinoid-like chemical is ingested, the body can then use these chemicals to correctly signal itself.
When these chemicals are lacking in our diets, our bodies cannot properly signal itself. This can lead to an array of ailments and diseases. Many diseases are not a problem of curing, but a problem of nutrition/diet. It is important to view herbs as food in this way. Instead of thinking of how plants can be used as a cure to certain ailments, it is better to think of what herbs can be used to restore order in the afflicted system. In this way, using herbs in our diet can then be seen not as a cure; but more as restoring a deficiency of nutrients within the body.
The Synergy of Natural Plant Chemicals
In understanding the use of herbs in helping our bodies signal itself, it should be stressed that the plant chemistry is already in its most bio-available form at the time of harvest. This is due to the chemical synergy of the plant at it's natural chemical ratios. If a single chemical of the plant were purified and extracted, it would not be as bioavailable. The active chemicals in a plant perform better when it is with the chemicals it came into being with (also known as the entourage effect). The more an extract moves towards purity, the farther it gets from synergy. In efforts to maintain the synergy of a plant, the spagyric method offers insight into how and why a plant is better when all its components are maintained.
When a typical herbal extract is made via alcohol, the components are mostly acidic. However, this is not how the components exist naturally in the plant. When a plant grows, it is grown in a relatively neutral pH soil (5.5 - 7.0 pH). This pH carries over into the plant and is the driving force behind it's natural bio-availability. In other words, the plant has it's acids balanced with bases in the form of mineral salts.
When a plant is extracted, only its acidic components are extracted. The minerals contained in the plant body are left behind. These minerals are of upmost importance when it comes to water solubility of oils/carboxylic acids/vitamins/alkaloids...
In the spagyric process, the plant is first extracted. The left over plant matter is then burned and calcined, yielding the purified mineral salts. These mineral salts are then added back to the alcohol extract. The acidic components in the plant are neutralized with the very minerals that were contained in the plant itself. This method has only been discovered through the spiritual philosophy of maintaining the plant's soul, spirit and body.
Plants as Conscious Beings - Interactions with Plant Consciousness
It is important to view plants as living, conscious beings. In this way it can be understood how a plant works with the body, mind and spirit. Plants have an array of effects and will act differently depending on your own personal stress levels, mind state, environment and life-style. Unlike pharmaceuticals; plants can balance certain systems within the body. They help your body communicate with itself.
The consciousness associated with plants helps bring awareness to certain ailments within the body. For example, turmeric and black pepper both work with the endocannbinoid system. If there is pain or inflammation present, the body may lack the proper chemicals to respond to the body's signaling process. When an extract of turmeric and black pepper is ingested, the chemicals within get digested and become available for use.
When a person's body all the sudden has these extracts ingested and digested for use, the body now has the proper chemicals to signal itself. An ailment like inflammation (depending on its cause) will now be recognized by the body. The body can then start to increase blood flow away from the afflicted area and reduce the inflammation.
The important thing to understand is that herbs help your body communicate with itself. Herbs are not cures, they are conscious beings that have the chemicals needed for your body to regulate itself naturally. This is our intrinsic connection to nature and food. This also stresses the importance of a healthy, natural diet full of different vegetables, herbs and fruits.
